DIY Ruffle Wreath

So many many months ago I began to embark on a journey... Domestic Goddess.  To say the least, to many, it may seem as though I have fallen short of such a title, but today I get to prove you all wrong!

In my new family the girl cousins do this thing called "Cousin Christmas".  With me in the mix there were a total of five female cousins this year.  Each of us were to give gifts under $20 to the other four girls.  For one of my gifts I decided I would make a DIY ruffle wreath that I had seen on the internet.  (I would love to give credit to someone here but I really do not know where I saw the first tutorial).  So, HERE WE GO!

Supplies:

  • Felt (I used two different colors and got a few yards of each color)
  • 14" foam wreath
  • Straight/sewing pins (at least a few hundred)
  • Some sort of circular object to trace circles (I used a large salt can-about 3")
  • Pen
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors

So to start the project off you need to literally cut out hundreds of circles.. I know I used at least 200.  So do what you have to do to make all of the circles... I traced and cut all of mine (with the help of my amazing husband).  This is the most tedious part of the project.

The next part is the easy part!  Simply take each circle and fold it in half, and then fold it in half again.  (See pics below)

After the circle has been folded, take one of the straight pins and stick it through the bottom of the circle, as shown below.

You will then simply stick the pin into the styrofoam. You continue to do this for the entire wreath.
*If you are doing different colors as I did, make sure you measure even intervals around the wreath so all of your color sections are even.

JUST KEEP ADDING CIRCLES

No need to put circles on the back of the wreath because you want it to be able to lay on the door.

Eventually you will finish and here is the final product:

ON THE BACK OF THE WREATH I ADDED A SMALL PIECE OF RIBBON AND SECURED IT WITH STRAIGHT PINS (this is what will attach to the door wreath holder)
