So how long have we known we were pregnant!? We found out on January 31 of this year. A certain something was a bit late....I had taken at least 2 tests which came back negative. It took four days of waiting and VIOLA! two blue lines on a stick=pregnant! Chad of course didn't really believe me until I went and bought a ClearBlue pregnancy test and he was able to see the PREGNANT right there in front of him. I have never been more touched then when he looked at me and said, "I'm going to be a dad". Even thinking about it now makes my eyes well up with tears (its probably the hormones). I digress... It has been an amazing journey so far and we still have such a long beautiful path ahead of us. As of this Sunday we will be right around nine weeks along. Our first doctors visit was on Valentines day. We weren't as far along as I had thought... the gestational sack only measured at five weeks. We went back to the doctor on the 26th and we measured seven weeks and two days. The most amazing part of our second appointment was when we saw our baby's heart beating. Of course I cried and Chad's jaw was stuck open for a good two minutes. But out of all honesty it was the most incredible thing I have ever seen. I absolutely can't wait for our next appointment and wish I could get an ultrasound every day just so I can see what the heck is going on in there!
Uncertainty.... this is probably my least favorite thing about pregnancy so far. You don't really know what is going on inside of you and you truly have to have faith and know that the Lord is going to do what is best for you. It is tough though not being able to monitor your progress 24/7. As I've told many people I have had most of the common pregnancy symptoms. My "random times of the day sickness" (morning sickness) started around five and a half weeks and has fluctuated here and there. It is a little different each day. No vomiting yet just being super queasy. Lately it has been more like afternoon sickness and I have also discovered that if I eat scrambled eggs ever again I will indeed vomit. Besides all of that I think I am most likely the most bloated and gassy woman ever to exist. Even I gross myself out sometimes. My poor husband... between me and the dog he is fighting a losing battle (sorry babe...we love you!). I also pee about every 40 minutes, have terrible indigestion, and foods as simple as PB&J give me heartburn. Its ok though. I do not enjoy all of these symptoms but I do welcome them with open arms. It's a sign of progression, and that is at least a little calming.
Chad and I decided to wait until we saw a heartbeat to tell our families about our good news! We both wanted to surprise our parents and tell them the good news in a way they wouldn't expect. A few weeks ago I came up with the brilliant idea to make a slide show of our puppy Spro growing up. Chad's parents have never seen Spro in person and I thought it would be perfect! On the Tuesday we saw the heartbeat we invited my dad over for dinner. I mentioned I had made a slide show for Chad's parents and I wanted his opinion on it. Well it got to a certain part and dad said, "what's that supposed to mean" but I made him keep watching until the end. He got completely teary eyed and was so happy for us. We were able to Facetime with my younger sister Morgan and tell her the good news (she lives like 12 hours away, otherwise we would have told her in person). We had to travel to Southport to tell Chad's parents and brother the good news. We waited until after midnight for Chad's dad to get home so we could show both of his parents the slide show at the same time...they screamed and were beyond happy! It was so great to finally be able to tell our loved ones!!
Here is the slideshow we used to tell our families!
We feel so blessed and are just so happy!! We still have a long road to travel but we couldn't be more excited about how God is working in our lives!!!
Sweeeeeeeet video! Yay!
